MIPS continues to expand its presence across Europe with the acquisition of German company MCS’ LIS business unit

Comprehensive information management systems for laboratories

MIPS and sister company CliniSys | MIPS are the LIS market leader in the UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The acquisition of the MCS LIS business unit, one of the largest suppliers in Germany, will support the company’s increased presence and growth in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

MIPS specialises solely in the development, delivery and support of complete and scalable ‘end to end IT’ solutions, supporting the full spectrum of clinical laboratory services across all care settings.

Clinical laboratories sit at the centre of patient treatment with over 70% of diagnostic decisions derived from laboratory tests. MIPS’ solution suite enables customers to manage the workflow and reporting associated with extremely high volumes of tests that must be delivered with a high degree of accuracy. Laboratory information technology is a mission-critical component that is central to improving the cost and quality of patient care.

Supporting the future needs of laboratories

The integrated businesses will be able to offer a broader and deeper range of services and solutions to the combined customer base across Europe. Together, they have revenues of €50 million, and employ more than 350 people located across Europe. The integrated company now supports over 550 LIS customers with laboratories in over 1,000 locations.

The pace of change in healthcare continues to accelerate, largely underpinned by incredible advances in technology and medicine. Diagnostics has a key role to play in this evolution, requiring ever more advanced capability from its software suppliers.   To name a few examples; the introduction of molecular diagnostics supporting moves towards more personalised healthcare models based on genetic make-up requires innovative approaches to data management and the presentation of complex information structures. The introduction of wearable devices and the need to deliver more testing in the community is revolutionising the way in which test data is collected and made available to both clinicians and patients.  Consolidation of laboratory services requires scalable and flexible IT solutions with high levels of interoperability with a myriad of different clinical systems all wanting access to the diagnostic information.
